Recording

I’ve been recording one of my tunes the past couple of days. It’s been quite rewarding, and I’m definitely feeling more fulfilled about my music. Progress is slow, so don’t expect any releases in the near future.

For those who care, I’m using a I’ve got a Focusrite Octopre patched into a Behringer Magician, into the Digidesign Digi-002. Software is Protools 6.9.2, Mac OS X, Tiger.

The song is called “Wind In Your Shoes” (although I’m not so sure about the title – another good candidate is “Don’t Lose The Rhythm”), and I’ve presently got the following recorded:

  • acoustic guitar track, using an old Harmony acoustic (I always felt like a loser with my Harmony, but I just found out Jimmy Page used a Harmony to record “Stairway To Heaven“)
  • bass guitar – late 70’s Fender Musicmaster thru an Ampeg B1R
  • electric guitar – Gibson ES-135 thru an old Silvertone Tube Amp
  • electric guitar – Brian Moore i2.13 thru an Electro-Harmonix Small Stone and a vintage Memory Man direct into the Octopre (talk about watery, the sound reminds me somewhat of The Edge‘s guitar in U2‘s “Mysterious Ways“)
  • a broken shekere with the beads intact
  • a broken tambourine with the jingles intact
  • a vocal track (scratch)

No more romoblog

Since I don’t have a ton of free time available to work on a new theme for my site, I’ve decided to implement the K2 theme in the interim. Additionally, I’ve decided to rename “romoblog” to “Roman Edirisinghe” or a derivative. Eventually, I hope to use WordPress not only as a blogging platform, but as a means to manage a whole site. The most likely result of this will be a “static” front page, and you’ll have to click through to access the blog entries. For now, enjoy the K2 theme, compliments of Michael Heilemann and Chris J. Davis.

There is another WordPress theme competition going on, specifically geared to WordPress 2.0. If I have time, I may try to enter a theme in the competition. However, my schedule is so dense that I barely have time to relax.

Just upgraded to WordPress 2.0

I just upgraded to WordPress 2.0. I really like the image upload function, complete with preview. I hope my devoted readers will not mind as I take my time redesigning my site. I’m not quite satisfied with the default theme…

WordPress 2.0 Released

WordPress 2.0 has just been released, so I’m going to essentially tear down my site while I upgrade. Essentially, I hope to do a redesign based on a different theme, and all you’ll see for a while is a standard template. Bear with me…

Moblog Test 2

It appears I can post text, but I can’t post pictures. Oh well.
This is all thanks to the WordPress WAP plugin available at http://niksblick.de.

Talk Like A Pirate Day

Today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day, which should explain why my blog is suddenly written in Pirate lingo. This is attributed entirely to Dougal Campbell’s Text Filter Suite plugin for WordPress. Included in the plugin suite are Jive, Kraut, Fudd, and, of course, Pirate.

Thinking Chess Game

Interesting game. Move the pieces, and watch the process by which the machine calculates the best move to counter yours. Highly inventive.

First email to romoblog from my phone

The Matrix

Well, this is coming along quite nicely. It trips me out that I’m actually writing this from my mobile phone. Tech has advanced considerably. It’s quite astonishing, actually.
