Plane Crash in Riverwest, Milwaukee

While I was setting up to play a gig last night at the Brynwood Country Club, an airplane crashed into my neighborhood. My mom called me and told me the news. Apparently the pilot was unharmed. When I did finally get to the ‘hood, I saw a crowd, police, a crane, and a plane tangled up in power lines, nose dangling mere feet above the ground. In Milwaukee’s Riverwest, we’re used to crackheads and stick-ups, not plane crashes. I went and hung out with the gawkers, armed with my camera, and quickly decided it was way too dark to get a good shot. It was quite a spectacle to behold.

Wow ! That must’ve been a trip to see….. so close to my old house, too. I doubt anything that exciting would happen here in Racine ! Hope all is going well for you, otherwise.

You know your blog was like the 3rd on the list when I googled the crash.

@Cedric: Good luck going to college. I understand that college entry in different countries can be quite difficult.

@Ami: yes, the airplane was quite unusual, and you never really know what’s going to land on top of your house. Life is full of strange surprises!

My friends and I were also in Riverwest at the time… We saw the plane, it’s crazy how it was hanging. My friend was one of the gawking picture takers, lol. I’m sure none of her pictures turned out because of the dark.I also saw you at the Coffee House on Sunday, great job! You might remember me and my friends… well we were the brightly dressed/haired ones lol.

@Jenny: Yes, I remember seeing you and your friends at the Coffee House. You were sitting right up front and I couldn’t tell if you were bored or not. You guys seemed like you didn’t want to be there… But then again, I don’t always accurately gauge people by their outsides… I liked the hair and the clothes. Very refreshing in a dry, boring culture!

@Bonishqua: It irritates me to know that the pilot was drunk and that he could have killed someone.

@All: if anyone has any good pix of the crash, please email them to me roman [at] romanedirisinghe.com and I will post them to my blog.

No, none of us were bored. lol, just ya know sunday night after partying all weekend hehe. Also the dreading of having to go to school the next day. ( Bonishque aka rachel was the one with me taking pictures of the plane lol) yeah ive seen One Drum a few times before, u guys r awesome. i also noticed that the Matt Hendricks cd was playing before the concert started, fan of his? he is great.

Comment from Roman Edirisinghe - 21 Nov ’05 at 11:20 am

@Jenny: I don’t know Matt Hendricks, actually. If he was playing, it was probably because Sandy (the Coffee House sound engineer) was playing it. I’ve seen Matt’s posters around, but never seen him play. Tell Bonishqua (Rachel) to email me some pix, and I’ll put them up!

That happened a block away from a former residence of mine. Still have friends over there. Was actually planning on going to Quarters that night but didnt want to deal with any potential traffic problems. The funniest thing was that I saw a girl (now woman) I hadnt seen in 15 years being interviewed on the news about how close the plane crashed to her flat.

I am one of the many owners of the plane that crashed, it belonged to us at the Westosha Flying Club in Wilmot WI. It’s a damned shame. The pilot was an idiot he didn’t deserve to fly. It was a beautiful airplane I bet it must have been a sight to see!

The plane crash was far too surreal for words. And yes, the guy was a frickin’ idiot. He should have tried to land on the freeway, rather than on our rooftops!

I live a couple blocks from the crash site. I didn’t hear anything, but the power went out – only on my block. Across the street, the lights were on. The next block over in the other directions, the lights were on. My block, zip. What brings this to mind at this late date is the fact that this morning the power went out again – need I say it – only in my block. I’d like to know what the power company has against us.
