Music

As a child, Roman Edirisinghe was deeply influenced by the sound of his mother’s voice lulling him to sleep, and by his father playing guitar around the house. Growing up in Germany in the seventies afforded him exposure to popular music via radio and television, but it wasn’t until he experienced Sri Lanka that the seed was planted. There, he encountered piano lessons, reggae on the beaches, chants in temples, and ceremonial dances that would change him forever. After his arrival in the USA, Roman eventually acquired a guitar (very likely a rummage sale purchase), and his parents eventually signed him up for lessons with Tody Ramos, a highly-accomplished Jazz guitarist. Unfortunately, Roman’s patience for lessons was rather short, and he stopped studying, opting instead to jam with friends. It wasn’t until guitarist Roy Anderson, a neighbor, taught him how to play a Led Zeppelin lick that Roman really caught the bug.

Currently, Roman performs as a sideman in various groups in the Milwaukee area, and is also working on a solo CD.
