Memory Maps

Integrating screenshots of Google Maps and using Flickr notes, Memory Maps are visual representations of one’s memories, an annotated satellite view of places steeped in personal meaning.

I found out about Memory Maps on Lifehacker, and decided it was worth a try. After all, I’ve had an interesting childhood, moving around to different countries, and so forth.

Check out my Memory Maps photoset on Flickr. The Memory Maps group is worth perusing as well.

I Feel Lonely

I feel a deep void inside, like peering into a deep well at night, and you can only see darkness, and maybe, maybe the reflection of a star in the dark water, deep, deep below. I try to fill this void, to avoid feeling the darkness and the loneliness, but nothing ever seems to fill that void. Not people, not things or possessions, not travelling to other places, not even music.

The loneliness that I feel is an absence of spirituality.

Raw Meat Art

Raw Meat Art Show

Um. How would you like to see this in person?

The artist Gabriela Rivera says her “work is a metaphor for the relationship that people have with themselves every day when they look in the mirror.”

Yikes. I hope that’s not what I see when I look in the mirror. If perchance you DO see yourself like this, I would recommend professional help.

NYC Flickr Exposition

It appears that some of my photos are going to be showcased in New York City, thanks to Flickr and multimedia technology. For more information on the exhibit, please visit the NYC Exposition’s Flickr page.
Location: PRDream/MediaNoche in East Harlem, El Barrio.
Time: October, 2005 (date and time unknown at present).

Clarisel, one of the group’s administrators, asked me to compose a little blurb about myself, which I did. It now appears in stunning beauty at the NYC Exposition blog, accompanied by my favorite picture of Ian, David Stocker’s son.

Sri Lanka to host WOMAD World Music Festival

My friend Tim just recently sent me this article, and I totally want to go to this outstanding event. However, my finances will likely not permit it, so I’ll have to encourage my friends and family in Sri Lanka to check it out.

The creation of WOMAD (which stands for World Of Music, Arts, and Dance) was inspired by Peter Gabriel in the early 1980’s, and since its inception has dazzled audiences by bringing together the most awe inspiring performers from around the world.

I’m quite excited that WOMAD will be held in Sri Lanka this year, especially since most people had never heard of the country prior to last December’s tragic tsunami. WOMAD’s presence in Sri Lanka will bring greater awareness of this cultural gem to the rest of the world, and only time will tell what creative bridges will be spanned as a result.

For any of you in the general area (Sri Lanka is quite a short trip from Europe, Asia, Australia, and India), the WOMAD festival will feature such greats as Billy Cobham, the Master Drummers of Burundi, and many more.

Someone used my image!

Garden MandalaI just did a Google search on my name and discovered that one of my Flickr images got used in a video presentation accompanying a perfomance of “Music in Similar Motion,” a Phillip Glass composition. I was rather surprised to find this out, as no one had informed me that this was going to take place. Oh well.
