House on the Rock
After we visited the Cave of the Mounds, we checked out the House on the Rock, which was very cool in a different way. For anyone visiting the House on the Rock, I recommend taking 2 days to go through the whole thing. We decided to tackle it all at once, and it was a bit overwhelming. The guy who built the house was an extreme collector (do I hear pack rat?) and going through it was akin to entering a different dimension. It simply boggles the mind.
Cave of the Mounds
I’ve lived in this state for over 20 years and until last weekend, I had no inkling that Wisconsin housed an actual underground cave, complete with stalactites and stalagmites. About 2 hours west of Milwaukee is the Cave of the Mounds, an underground cavern offering guided tours through the bowels of the Earth. Silly as it may seem, neither of us brought a camera on the trip. However, we made the acquaintance of a gent named Sam Krneta, who happened to have a camera and was kind enough to email me some of his great pictures of the cave.
